Allergology

Allergy is an increasingly relevant health issue, currently affecting about a third of the world’s population. It is predicted that in the future, every second European will have some form of allergy. At the Baltic American Clinic, we provide professional allergy services to diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of allergic reactions.

Our admission department is open 24/7. A clinic staff member will contact you the day before your scheduled appointment to inform you of your exact arrival time. Scheduled patient admissions take place on weekdays from 8am to 9pm.

Allergy services

Allergy specialist consultation

An in-depth consultation with a specialist to discuss allergy symptoms, the circumstances of their onset, and to draw up a personalised treatment plan. During the consultation, the doctor assesses the type and severity of the allergy and provides recommendations for further treatment.

Pulmonologist-allergist consultation

Specialist consultation for patients whose allergies affect the respiratory system (asthma, allergic rhinitis, airway hyperresponsiveness).

Allergy diagnostics

Skin prick tests

Accurate skin tests to help identify specific allergens. During the procedure, a small amount of allergen is introduced into the skin and the skin’s reaction is monitored. This is a safe and effective test that allows many allergy triggers to be identified.

Blood tests

IgE antibody tests are performed when it is not possible to test the patient’s skin and its reaction to different allergens.

Challenge tests

Specialist tests that monitor the patient’s reaction to different allergens and medications. Performed under controlled conditions, these tests help identify allergy triggers with high accuracy.

Most common allergies

Inhalant allergies

Caused by substances that enter the body through the airways:

  • Plant pollen (birch, rowan, various grasses)
  • House dust mites
  • Moulds
  • Animal dander

Food allergies

Allergies are most commonly triggered by:

  • Peanuts (up to 2% of the population)
  • Dairy products, eggs
  • Seafood, fish
  • Wheat and other cereals

Contact allergies

Allergic reactions can be caused by:

  • Cosmetics and dyes
  • Cleaning products and detergents
  • Metals (nickel, chromium)
  • Medicinal products

Allergy treatment

Medical treatment

Tailored individually, depending on the type and severity of the allergy:

  • Antihistamines – to relieve symptoms
  • Beta-2 agonists – to ease breathing
  • Corticosteroids – to treat severe types of allergy
  • Hormone-based medications – for long-term allergy control

Specific immunotherapy

A treatment method in which tolerance is induced by administering increasing doses of the allergen under controlled conditions. It is used:

  • For house dust mite allergy
  • To treat tree and grass pollen allergies
  • When other treatment methods are not effective

When should you see an allergy specialist?

We recommend seeing an allergy specialist immediately if you experience:

  • Seasonal sneezing, a runny nose, watery eyes
  • Skin redness, itching, hives (urticaria)
  • Abdominal pain, diarrhoea after consuming certain foods
  • Shortness of breath, wheezing, coughing related to environmental factors
  • Severe reactions after taking medications or insect bites

Remember, severe or mild allergies can develop regardless of your age. For example, about 50% of food allergies develop in people over the age of 35. Therefore, do not ignore the symptoms and consult with specialists.

Prevention and lifestyle recommendations

Our specialists not only diagnose and treat, but also educate you on:

  • How to avoid allergens in your daily environment
  • What to do in the event of a severe allergic reaction
  • What medication to have on hand for emergencies
  • How to relieve allergy symptoms by making lifestyle changes

An allergy can be not only a source of discomfort but also a real threat to life. Therefore, it is extremely important to diagnose the problem in time and select the appropriate treatment.
