Medical certificates for educational institutions are electronic health certificates issued during a child’s preventive health check. They are required for attending kindergarten, a pre-school group or school.
The annual preventive health check of a child.
Assessment of growth, development, general health and fitness for physical activity.
The data are entered in the “E. sveikata” (e-health) system.
You can come for the health check regardless of the Lithuanian city or district you live in.
When is a child health certificate needed?
The child health certificate (form E027-1) is required for children attending pre-school, pre-primary and general education institutions.
The preventive health check is carried out every year, even if the child feels well and has no complaints.
The purpose of the check is to assess the child’s health, notice possible developmental or health problems and give recommendations that matter for the child’s everyday activities at the educational institution.
The child health certificate is valid for one year from the date it is completed.
What is checked during the preventive health check?
The doctor assesses the child’s health according to their age, development and individual needs.
The check may include:
- Growth and physical development. Height and weight are measured and growth indicators are assessed.
- Cardiovascular system. Heart function is assessed; blood pressure is measured depending on age and need.
- Vision. An age-appropriate vision assessment is performed.
- Posture and musculoskeletal system. Posture and the condition of the spine and musculoskeletal system are assessed.
- General health. Past illnesses, chronic health conditions, allergies and medicines taken are discussed.
- Physical activity. The doctor assesses whether the child needs restrictions in physical education or individual recommendations.
If the doctor finds medical indications, additional tests or consultations with specialist doctors may be recommended.
Important: an oral health check is required before the visit
The child health certificate consists of two parts:
Carried out by a family doctor or a paediatrician.
Carried out by a dentist or a dental hygienist within their competence.
Baltic American Clinic does not provide dental services, so before coming for a child health certificate the oral health check must be done at another healthcare institution.
The dentist or dental hygienist must complete the relevant part of the electronic child health certificate in the “E. sveikata” system.
If this part has already been completed and is still valid, the oral health check does not need to be repeated.
How to prepare for the visit
Usually no special preparation is needed.
Before coming, we recommend that you:
- Arrange the oral health check at another healthcare institution and make sure the relevant part of the certificate has been completed in the “E. sveikata” system.
- Bring the child’s identity document, if one has been issued.
- Know which medicines the child takes and any allergies they have.
- Tell the doctor about chronic illnesses or previous operations.
- Have information on relevant earlier test results or specialist doctors’ conclusions.
If the child has a fever or an acute infectious illness, it is advisable to postpone the preventive check until they have recovered.
Frequently asked questions
Is the health certificate for kindergarten and school the same?
Yes. Pre-school, pre-primary and general education institutions use the same child health certificate, E027-1.
Does the child health certificate need to be renewed every year?
Yes. The preventive health check of a child is carried out once a year, and the certificate is valid for one year.
Do we need to see a dentist before coming?
Yes, if the child’s oral health check has not been done yet or its data are no longer valid. Baltic American Clinic does not provide dental services, so the oral health check has to be arranged at another healthcare institution.
Do we need to bring a paper certificate from the dentist?
Usually not. What matters is that the dentist or dental hygienist has completed the relevant part of the child health certificate in the “E. sveikata” system.
Are blood and urine tests required?
Not for every child. The doctor decides whether additional laboratory tests are needed based on the child’s age, health and medical indications.
Can the certificate be issued on the same day?
Yes. If the oral health part has already been completed, all the required health checks have been done and no additional tests are needed, the certificate can be completed during the visit.
