Endocrinology

Hormones are your body’s “conductors”, regulating your energy levels, emotional stability, metabolism and many other aspects of health. The Baltic American Clinic provides top-tier endocrinology services designed to optimally balance your endocrine system and restore your health and vitality.

Our admissions department is open 24 hours a day. A member of the clinic staff will contact you the day before your scheduled appointment to inform you of your exact arrival time. Scheduled outpatient appointments take place on weekdays from 8 am to 9 pm.

When is an endocrinology consultation required?

You should consider a possible hormonal imbalance if you experience any of the following symptoms:

General symptoms:

  • Persistent fatigue that does not improve with rest
  • Unexplained weight gain or weight loss
  • Persistent drowsiness or insomnia
  • Frequent mood swings, irritability or anxiety
  • Reduced capacity to work and difficulty concentrating

Metabolic disturbances:

  • Increased sensitivity to cold (constantly cold hands and feet)
  • Heat intolerance or excessive sweating
  • Persistent thirst and frequent urination
  • Increased appetite but losing weight

Physical signs:

  • Dry, flaky or pale skin
  • Brittle hair or hair loss, and changes to nails
  • Muscle weakness, cramps and joint pain
  • Heart rhythm disorders and high blood pressure

Specific symptoms:

  • Swollen or thickened neck (possible thyroid issue)
  • High blood sugar levels (detected in tests)
  • Infertility and menstrual irregularities
  • Reduced sex drive

If you experience any of these symptoms, we recommend that you do not delay consulting an endocrinologist. Early detection of changes in the endocrine system makes treatment easier and helps prevent complications.

Endocrinology services at the Baltic American Clinic

Endocrinologist consultation

The endocrinologist will perform a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s condition:

  • Reviewing the patient’s symptoms and medical history
  • Performing a physical examination
  • Evaluating existing test results
  • Making a diagnosis or establishing a plan for further tests
  • Providing treatment recommendations

During the consultation, an ultrasound scan may be performed to assess the condition of the endocrine glands (most commonly the thyroid).

Evaluation of laboratory test results

The endocrinologist evaluates blood and urine test results:

  • Thyroid function markers
  • Blood sugar levels and glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c)
  • Sex hormone levels
  • Hormones secreted by other endocrine glands

Based on the test results, an accurate diagnosis is made and an individualised treatment plan is created.

Diabetes mellitus treatment

The Baltic American Clinic provides professional diabetes mellitus treatment services:

  • Confirming the diagnosis
  • Creating an individualised treatment plan
  • Selecting medication and adjusting doses
  • Patient education on managing the condition
  • Recommendations for preventing complications

Diagnosis of endocrine and exocrine gland function

A comprehensive diagnosis of gland function is performed:

  • Evaluation of thyroid function
  • Pituitary gland function tests
  • Adrenal gland function assessment
  • Diagnosis of pancreatic function

Fine-needle aspiration biopsy

If required, a thyroid fine-needle aspiration biopsy is performed:

  • The procedure is ultrasound-guided to ensure accuracy
  • A sample of thyroid tissue is taken
  • A cytological examination is performed to confirm the diagnosis

Latest methods and technologies

The Baltic American Clinic utilises the most advanced technologies:

  • High-resolution ultrasound scans – enable the detection of even the smallest changes in the endocrine glands
  • Precise laboratory diagnostics – utilising the most sensitive and advanced testing methods

A preventative approach to endocrine health

We believe that prevention is always better than treatment:

  • Identifying risk groups – family history, genetic factors
  • Early interventions – correcting subtle endocrine disorders
  • Regular check-ups – recommended for individuals at an increased risk of developing endocrine diseases
  • Lifestyle advice – how to maintain a healthy hormonal balance through diet, physical activity and stress management

A comprehensive approach to treatment

The endocrine system is interconnected with all other systems in the body, which is why:

  • We collaborate with dietitians – to create dietary plans for patients with diabetes and other endocrine diseases
  • We work alongside cardiologists – to optimise cardiovascular health
  • We consult with gynaecologists and urologists – to address hormonal disorders related to reproductive health
  • We involve psychologists – to help cope with the emotional challenges caused by hormonal disorders
